The Democracy and Security foundation stimulates public discussion on the problems of national security on the base of the standards, procedures and legislations in the countries - members of NATO.

The Foundation's objectives are, as follows: 

• To work for the social and economic reintegration of redundant army servicemen; 

• To contribute to the establishing of civil control over the Armed forces as well as over the entire System of National security;

• To take an active part in the forming of an intellectual elite whose role shall be to promote the values of civil society and to disseminate its practices in the domain of security;

• To work for the construction of a horizontal network of links among the factors related to the elements of the Foundation in the civil society of Bulgaria as well as for the coordination of the activities of the civil structures concerned with the civil control over the Armed forces;

• To encourage the public debate and to expand the approval within civil society towards a professional army;

• To provide for professional and civil support for redundant servicemen and their adaptation to civilian life.


DSF forms different civil organizations in order to achieve its goals. For its work on the adaptation and the social reintegration of the redundant ex-servicemen it was established together with the Ministry of Defense the non-governmental organization "Association for Civil adaptation". Independent associations of the kind were established by DSF in the major cities of the country. DSF encourages the establishing of economic associations of the redundant ex-servicemen. DSF stimulates the activities of structures for professional training and re-qualification of redundant army servicemen. 

The activity DSF leads enables it to work closely with other non-governmental organizations as well as with institutes of public administration.
